Tongaat Special School is a public school that serves students with special needs (autism, spectrum disorder). The school buildings include 36 classrooms, boys’ and girls’ hostels, dining hall, laundry and teachers’ and matrons’ accommodations with the emphasis on special needs requirements.
The school is in Kwatiba at Tongaat KZN. Adamastor Consulting was responsible for the complete electrical design and construction supervision. This included the Medium Voltage (MV) connections and miniature substations, Low Voltage (LV) distribution, Small Power and Lighting, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) requirements, Fire Detection, Voice Evacuation and Emergency Power (Generators and UPS). Various advanced technologies have been included to facilitate the requirements of special needs children including smartboard technology, which creates a blending and personalized learning environment, enhancing learners’ mental and physical development.
The total value of the project was R107 million, with the Electrical portion being R14 million.
